A major win for activists and concerned students who opposed the practice of having police presence in school was put in place on tuesday June 15th 2021. This comes after a year of debate and consultation about having resource officers in public schools. For further information please click here for CBC’s full report on this victory.
Here at Bytown Blog we support this move and are happy to see it happen, minority students are usually the primary suspect for these officers and to finally see a change in the system is refreshing. Issues of discrimination, racism and prejudice are some of the many problems that the Ottawa Police has subjected to students. This is a promising start but there is more work to do.
